Beyond the square, the medina’s souks stretch for kilometers, organized loosely by trade: leather in one quarter, spices and dyed wool in another, lanterns and metalwork in a third. The Bahia Palace and Ben Youssef Madrasa showcase the ornate zellige tilework and carved cedar ceilings that define Moroccan architecture, while the Majorelle Garden offers a cooler, quieter contrast on the edge of the new city. Best Time to Visit Marrakech
The best time to visit Marrakech is March to May or September to November, when temperatures sit in a comfortable 20-28°C range ideal for walking the medina and taking day trips into the surrounding mountains and desert. Summer (June-August) is very hot, often exceeding 38°C, though evenings remain lively and hotel rates tend to drop. Winter is mild by day and cool at night, and remains a popular season for travelers escaping colder climates at home.
Getting to Marrakech
Marrakech Menara Airport connects directly to most major European cities. From the airport, the medina is roughly a 20-minute drive. Marrakech also sits on Morocco’s main rail line, with direct trains to Casablanca (about 3 hours) and connections north to Fes and Tangier.
